Poundworld is one of the UK’s leading value variety retailers with over 300 stores across the UK. It serves more than two million customers every week and employs over 6,000 people nationwide.
Having already undertaken a range of energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption, including the installation of LED lighting across their stores, Poundworld approached SMARTech energy to help realise further reductions in energy consumption.
30% Energy Reduction
SMARTech energy’s recommendations enabled Poundworld to implement a range of measures to further reduce their energy consumption achieving an additional 30% energy reduction. The measures taken included:
- Change behaviours and management processes to reduce baseload energy consumption.
- Reducing the reliance on hot air curtains to store entrances through a destratification strategy.
- Changing behaviours in relation to use of air-conditioning.
- Installation of sensors to warehousing zones.
How We Helped
SMARTech energy installed Eniscope energy monitoring systems across a number of Poundworld’s poorest performing stores. This provided minute by minute, real time analytics on energy usage across these stores. Our in-house ESOS approved assessors also carried out an in-depth energy audit of these stores.
Combining the analytics from the energy monitoring with the data from the audits, we identified a range of measures to further reduce energy consumption. Given that Poundworld had already made capital led investments such as LED lighting, our recommendations focused on management processes, team behaviour and low cost investment initiatives.
